This week’s fun-filled social media activity is to make friends with as many people with the name ‘Poppy Cox’ - will they meet their namesake with a sense of horror or hilarity?

breakfast in the garden was peaceful until a high-speed squirrel-chase shot around us and was interrupted by a high-speed ginger Kiki interception!

I’ve decided to create start doing charts of some of my favourite tracks so you can go buy the tracks yourself as well as just waiting for me to do my DJ mixes!

Please don’t pirate other people’s music. Most artists struggle to pay the bills for your listening pleasure.

All tracks available at Beatport; https://www.beatport.com

1) On The Edge - DJ Haze Chillydub Remix - Sick

My number 1 track at the moment was discovered when I was re-investigating a producer called ‘Sick’. the search was inspired by an old Sick track we used to play back in the Cheshire Catz days years ago. Sick’s productions are about reliable house laden with groove and plenty of disco and spacey twinkles. On The Edge feels to me like and unsung hero; its monotony is compelling and hypnotic, the kick literally doesn’t stop once through the whole 8.23 track. Trust me, a floor will get their rocks off to this when you play it at the right time. If you still ‘don’t get it’ a whopping 4 minutes into the track, see what happens at 4.07 - that my friends will garner at least a whoop if not a full scream depending on how cleverly you’ve dropped it into your set.

2) Shake Your Derriere - Original Mix - Dumb Dan, Sick

Funny enough I ended up buying more Sick tracks on that shopping trip! In fact, I just counted them, 11 tracks :os While french-kissing ‘Sick’ in the record shop, I was delighted to come across a producer new to me called ‘Dumb Dan’. Loving the thin whip snare, zap sounds and computerised/ vocoder vocals. Everything a nu-disco track should be, this little cutie is more of a wall-flower sipping champagne with a wry smile and a shoulder shimmy, you know she won’t go home on her own but she won’t make a scene of herself either.

3) Dirty Dancing - Original Mix - Compuphonic

This is yet another beauty by electronic music supremos Compuphonic. Along with Spiritcatcher, Compuphonic holds the shared (if not a little long-winded) title of ‘My Favourite Tech/ Prog/ Deep House Producers of All Time In The World So Far At Least.’ Legend has it that they alone have access to a remote crystallised music cave full of an endless supply of disco dust and magical electonic birds they have trained to sing soaring synth-lines into their tracks. I don’t need to write anything else here, you don’t have to love it as much as me but if you hate it, you might need to seek medical attention as there’s a good chance you may have some sort of personality defect.

4) Cool To Make A Million feat. Leroy Burgess - Drop Out Orchestra Remix - Cool Million

A clap with a reverb that finished just before it starts again? A live funk bass? A Rhodes organ? A soulful male vocal along with some backing singers? Yeh baby! D.I.S.C.O. at it hip swinging, flashing-dance-floor best! Would go down as well with yer gran 2 sherries down at a wedding as it would with the 19 year old hipsters in East London’s weirdest hair-cut venues.

5) Padded Shoulders Marathon - Unreleased Extended Version - Dumb Dan

One by Dumb Dan showing his mettle, this is an absolute nu-disco gem. It goes “One step small then two step backatonce, padded shoulders marathon” in a vocoder voice? Perm your hair, slip some pop-socks on and go and buy it now.

Men’s singles at Wimbledon today.

I do think its a bit prejudice they don’t let married men take part.

have I got any techno!? Absolutely! I often play techno and house!”
“no no, not ‘techno’, I said; “have you got any ‘Take That’”
“Oh.
